Maria Rake

Having been with Nottingham School of Black belts since the very beginning, I'm proud to say I'm the first member and Mr Cope and Mr King both certified me as their first ever black belt, one of my greatest achievements, at the age of 32. Never ever, say never. In 2002 I was rewarded with Student of the Year Trophy, another succession, all from the commitment and dedication. Whilst not a competitive fighter I am a perfectionist and always push myself till I get it right. Size really doesn't matter, its speed, agility, focus and passion, if you want it, go and get it. I did. I've just taken and successfully passed my 2nd Dan.

Mary McCann

I started kickboxing in 2002 when the Nottingham School of Blackbelts dojo opened above where I worked at the time. Me and a few friends went along to see what it was like and I have been training with Nottingham School of Blackbelts ever since. I passed my blackbelt (1st Dan) in March 2006 and I started teaching shortly after. I enjoy kickboxing for many reasons. It's a great way to get fit and I like the fact that you are always learning and the gradings give you something to aim for. I have competed in several competitions and I have also made some good friends. I am hoping to start working towards my 2nd Dan soon.
